The BC Indigenous Housing Society (BCIHS) is seeking a dynamic and experienced leader to serve as its Director, Human Resources.
Position Summary
As the Director of Human Resources, you will lead the HR function, ensuring alignment with BCIHS’s goals and objectives. Your work will involve implementing strategic and operational HR plans, optimizing systems and processes, and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation. You will champion a workplace culture rooted in service, collaboration, and occupational, psychological, and cultural safety, fostering the organization’s mission to build vibrant and inclusive communities.
You will play a critical role in developing and executing HR strategies that support workforce planning, succession planning, and organizational growth. By modernizing HR systems and processes, you will enhance efficiency and accuracy while enabling the organization to scale effectively. A trusted advisor to senior leadership, you will provide expert guidance on all HR-related matters and ensure best practices in labour relations, retention, and employee engagement.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will oversee and modernize recruitment processes to meet the demands of a rapidly growing organization. You will design and implement a structured recruitment program that ensures efficiency and provides an exceptional candidate experience, while actively participating in hiring for key roles.
In addition to recruitment, your leadership will extend to compensation and benefits, where you will collaborate with external providers to maintain competitive offerings and oversee the delivery of impactful training programs. These programs will focus on cultural competency, supervisory skills, and safety, equipping managers to lead effectively. You will also promote psychological safety and wellness across the organization, ensuring compliance with WorkSafeBC guidelines and fostering a healthy work environment.
As the organization grows, you will play a pivotal role in driving business transformation by fostering a data-driven culture, embedding BCIHS’s mission and values into HR practices, and ensuring compliance with employment standards, human rights, and labour laws. Importantly, you will create consistency in human resources processes and practices across the Society and collaborate with other departments to support organizational effectiveness.
You will oversee employee and labour relations, employee records management, infusing cultural safety and Indigenous values into HR practices, while ensuring accountability and professionalism at every step.
Candidate Profile
As the ideal candidate, you will bring a post-secondary degree or diploma in Human Resources or a related field and at least 10 years of progressive HR experience, including five years in a senior leadership role. You have a proven ability to align HR strategies with organizational goals, manage change initiatives, and modernize HR processes and systems.
You have expertise in recruitment, labour relations, and coaching managers in performance management and conflict resolution. Your expertise includes setting up and managing recruitment programs, administering collective agreements, and fostering employee engagement and retention. Knowledge of WorkSafeBC guidelines and BC employment standards is essential, and a Certified Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation is an asset.
This role is ideal for a leader with exceptional communication skills, a commitment to integrating cultural safety into HR practices, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
